Operators are accustomed to downtime when it comes to primary jaw and gyratory crushers, but this downtime is most often planned.
Following the rigorous duties these machines perform, staff take them offline for up to eight hours daily for cleaning, inspection, and repair. Mechanical failures are inevitable for primary, secondary, and tertiary crushers and given the severity of impact that components absorb, it is not uncommon for small, undetected problems to rapidly accelerate to catastrophic failure. When failure occurs, provided the necessary parts have been inventoried, it could take days to get a crusher back online while the stockpile continues to deplete.
